How to get admitted to top law colleges in India

Latest rankings of law schools in India by three well known magazines namely India-Today, Outlook and Week carried out in association with agencies having expertise in survey are given below for the year 2012. Top five rankings by India Today & Week are assigned to the following colleges:
National Law School of India University:
NLSIU, Bangalore is ranked as the top law school of India by India Today and Week-Hansa surveys for the year 2012. Outlook survey for 2012 has placed it as number two law school in the listings of top law colleges in India. Outlook has chosen Hyderabad based  National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University as the best college for law education in India.The Law School, a fully residential university, has its  23 acres campus in Nagarbhavi, Bangalore. The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor and Chairman, Bar Council of India, is the Chairman of the General Council. Regular academic activities began on 1st July, 1988 after admission of students selected through a National Entrance Test. This test is now known as the Common Law Entrance Test (CLAT)and  select candidates for all the National Law Schools and Other law-teaching institutions of India. CLAT carrying a maximum of 200 marks is conducted  every year in the month of May  and consists of objective type questions of a standard expected of 10+2 students and of 2 hours’ duration.  Admission is given every year to a total of students to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.), an integrated five yearly degree program and academic session begins on 1st July every year.The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) for the LL.M., two year PG program, is also held along with the admission test for the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.).  LL.M. program is offered in  Business Laws and Human Rights Laws to a batch of 25 students in each program. National University of Singapore, Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada and Buceuius Law School, Germany have student exchange program with the Law School. Its Distance Education Department offers a Master’s Degree program in Business Laws, and Post-Graduate Diploma program in Human Rights Law, Environmental Law, Medical Law and Ethics, Intellectual Property Law and Child Rights Law.
Campus Law Center, Delhi University:

It was established in 1924 and imparts legal education to admitted students through a 3 year LLB and a 3 year LLM course. Admission to both the courses is made on the basis of Entrance Test conducted by University of Delhi.  Faculty of Law has three centers for LLB students where classes are held at different timings. Campus Law center is located at Faculty of Law (North Campus), Chhatra Marg,University of Delhi, Delhi. Candidates appearing in the final qualifying examination (Graduate degree) or already passed with a graduation degree having 50% marks are eligible for appearing in the entrance test. SC/ST and OBC candidates have different eligibility criteria as given in the notification available at university website.
National Academy of Legal Studies and Research University:
NALSAR is a residential university and The Justice City Campus is located at Shameerpet, Hyderabad.  The Chief Justice of AP High Court is the Chancellor of the NALSAR university. Admission to the 5-Year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) and 2 year LLM Degree Programs are made through Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).  Candidate who have passed the 10 + 2 or equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in the aggregate (45% in case of reserved categories, i.e., S.C. / S.T./ Persons with Disability) and not yet attained the age of  20 years of age as on a specified date may apply for entrance test for LLB. The total number of seats for this course are seventy including reserved quota.  Ten seats are reserved for candidates belonging to countries other than India and such candidates do not require to appear in the CLAT. A tuition fee of INR 1.0 lakh is to be paid by students per year and it will increase by five thousand each year. Candidates who have passed the LL.B. / B.L. Degree or an equivalent Degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in the aggregate (50% in case of reserved Categories, i.e., S.C. / S.T. / Persons with Disability) may apply for LLM course. Ten seats are reserved for direct admission to foreign nationals. Total number of seats are fifty for LLM program. Specialization is available for LLM in following fields:

A tuition fee of INR 65000/- per annum has to be borne by a student for LLM studies.
